MHADA Painting Competition Celebrates Freedom, Creativity and the Vision of a Developed India

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) hosted a vibrant painting competition for school students at its headquarters in Bandra East, Mumbai, as part of the celebrations marking India’s 80th Independence Day. Held under the theme “Colours of Freedom, Picture of the Future,” the event brought together 50 young artists who expressed their ideas about freedom, patriotism, social responsibility and the future of India through art.

Young Artists Give Meaning to Freedom

Students from Classes 8 to 10 of Principal Janardan Laxman Shirsekar Educational Institution, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, Bandra East, took part in the competition. The initiative was organized under the guidance of Sanjeev Jaiswal, IAS, Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of MHADA, with the aim of encouraging students to look beyond Independence Day celebrations and understand the values and responsibilities associated with freedom.

The participants created colorful artworks around themes including national unity, unity in diversity, environmental protection, social responsibility, equality and the vision of a developed India. Their paintings reflected both their creativity and their understanding of important social and national issues.

Sanjeev Jaiswal Encourages Young Talent

Addressing the young participants, Sanjeev Jaiswal said that the paintbrushes held by today's students represent the ideas and dreams that will shape India's future. He emphasized that freedom is not only a right but also carries a responsibility toward society and the nation.

Jaiswal praised the students for expressing meaningful social messages through their artwork and said that an imaginative, compassionate and responsible younger generation will be an important foundation for a developed India. He also congratulated all the participants and wished them continued success.

Students and Teachers Recognized

MHADA provided the participating students with the necessary painting materials and presented each participant with a certificate and special badge as a token of appreciation. Students who secured first, second and third place were recognized with trophies and prizes.

A panel of experienced judges evaluated the paintings based on creativity, color combinations, interpretation of the theme, presentation, social messaging and overall artistic impact. The teachers who accompanied the students were also felicitated during the event.

The competition also reflected MHADA's effort to connect young people with its wider institutional mission of serving families and communities. By giving students, a platform to express their ideas, the initiative encouraged them to think about freedom, social responsibility and the role they can play in building a more inclusive, aware and developed India.
