MHADA Reviews Redevelopment Grievances at 19th Lokshahi Din, Orders Hearing for Long-Pending Rehabilitation Case

Mumbai, July 13, 2026: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) conducted its 19th Lokshahi Din (Democracy Day) at its headquarters in Bandra (East), where two public grievances were heard under the chairmanship of Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal (IAS), Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of MHADA.

One of the key cases involved Shri Deepak Sonawale, a resident of Building No. 18 on Fitwala Road, Elphinstone Road, who raised concerns regarding the delayed rehabilitation of tenants from a cessed building undergoing redevelopment.

According to the complaint, the Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board had issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to the developer in 2006 and 2009 for the redevelopment project. However, despite the passage of several years, the applicant has not been provided with a rehabilitation home. The complaint also alleged that the developer failed to pay monthly rent compensation and did not execute the Permanent Alternate Accommodation Agreement (PAAA) as required.

After reviewing the matter, Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal directed MHADA officials to summon the concerned developer for a formal hearing. He instructed that the developer be asked to address and resolve all legitimate grievances raised by the applicant at the earliest, in accordance with the applicable redevelopment regulations.

The Lokshahi Din initiative continues to serve as an important public grievance platform, enabling citizens to directly present redevelopment and housing-related issues before MHADA's senior leadership while ensuring timely administrative action and greater accountability.
