MHADA Partners with MahaTennis Foundation to Build International-Standard Tennis Hub in Mumbai
Mumbai, June 16, 2026: In a significant move to strengthen sports infrastructure and promote tennis across Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) and MahaTennis Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop a world-class tennis facility in Mumbai.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal (IAS), Chief Officer of the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Board Shri Milind Borikar (IAS), and senior representatives from both institutions.
Under the State Government’s approval, MHADA will provide approximately 8,000 square metres (around two acres) of land at Kolekalyan, Andheri, to MahaTennis Foundation under a joint partnership arrangement for a period of 30 years. The project aims to establish modern tennis courts, professional training infrastructure, tournament facilities, and related amenities to support athlete development.
MHADA will contribute ₹10 crore toward the initiative, while MahaTennis Foundation will invest ₹5 crore. The project is expected to create high-quality training opportunities for emerging talent and support participation in national and international competitions.
As per the agreement, ownership and possession of the land and all developed infrastructure will remain exclusively with MHADA, with no transfer of ownership, leasehold, or third-party rights permitted.
The facility will be dedicated solely to tennis-related activities including coaching, practice, tournaments, and sports development programs. MahaTennis Foundation will manage statutory approvals, maintenance, safety compliance, insurance, and operational responsibilities.
The MoU also includes a revenue-sharing mechanism under which 40 percent of non-sports commercial earnings will be shared with MHADA through a dedicated financial and audit structure.
In addition, special training opportunities will be offered to MHADA and State Government employees and their children, while 20 students each year will receive professional tennis coaching free of cost. Representatives from MHADA and the Housing Department will participate in project governance and ongoing monitoring.
The initiative marks another step in MHADA’s broader vision of supporting citizen development beyond housing by creating high-quality sports and public infrastructure for Mumbai’s youth.
