Decision by MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal – A Diwali Gift for Employees; Waiting List for Service Quarters Reduced to Zero

Mumbai, October 20, 2025: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has taken a significant decision to allocate a total of 164 service quarters for officers and employees working at its headquarters in Mumbai. The allocation includes quarters located at Ghatkopar, Mumbai Central, and Sion Pratiksha Nagar. This decision, taken by MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal, has come as a Diwali gift for MHADA’s Mumbai office employees.

For several years, MHADA employees had to wait for service quarters in Mumbai. After the recruitment of new staff through the direct service recruitment process in 2022, around 387 employees were on the waiting list for official accommodation. Acting under the guidance of Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal, MHADA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer Shri Anil Wankhede undertook meticulous planning and special efforts to ensure that service quarters were provided to eligible officers and employees in phases. Due to this efficient planning and execution, the waiting list for service quarters has now been completely cleared.

According to Shri Anil Wankhede, out of the total 164 quarters allocated, 80 are located at Ghatkopar, 57 at Mumbai Central, and 27 at Sion Pratiksha Nagar. Officers and employees serving across MHADA’s various regional boards in Maharashtra are often transferred to Mumbai. Additionally, employees appointed through direct service recruitment have also been posted at MHADA headquarters.

Given the high cost of living and dense population in Mumbai, it is particularly difficult for third-grade employees to afford rented housing. As a result, many employees had to reside in distant suburbs such as Kalyan, Titwala, Badlapur, and Vasai–Virar. The long travel distances to reach the office were affecting their efficiency and productivity. Considering these challenges, MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal decided to allocate service quarters to 164 officers and employees.

The concerned officers and employees have expressed their sincere gratitude to MHADA Vice President and Chief Executive Officer Shri Sanjeev Jaiswal for this thoughtful decision, which will greatly benefit them and their families.
