MHADA to Present Kamathipura Cluster Redevelopment Framework for Public Participation

MHADA will present the proposed framework for the Kamathipura Cluster Redevelopment Project on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 6 PM in Mumbai. The special presentation is being organized in partnership with the Kamathipura Development Committee at Akhil Padmashali Samaj, Bhavna Baug, Sixth Lane, Kamathipura.

The project is aimed at transforming old and unsafe buildings in the historic Kamathipura area while providing residents with safe, modern and well-equipped housing. The redevelopment is also planned to improve civic infrastructure and support the long-term, sustainable development of the neighborhood.

The Maharashtra government’s cluster redevelopment initiative is being implemented through MHADA’s Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board under Regulation 33(9) of DCPR 2034. MHADA has been appointed as the nodal agency and Special Planning Authority for the project, while Bhagirathi Housing Pvt. Ltd. and Mathi Developers Pvt. Ltd. have been selected as the Construction and Development Agency.

Based on the government resolution issued on January 12, 2023, the proposed integrated redevelopment covers both cess and non-cess buildings. The project area spans approximately 34 acres and includes around 943 cess buildings and 349 non-cess buildings. More than 8,000 residents and tenants are connected with the redevelopment, including approximately 6,625 residential tenants, 1,376 commercial tenants and around 800 landowners.

The upcoming presentation will explain the project’s proposed concept, scope, rehabilitation plans, beneficiary details, civic and basic amenities, environmental measures and long-term development vision. It will also give residents, tenants, landowners and other stakeholders an opportunity to better understand the proposed framework and participate in the redevelopment process.

The initiative is focused on creating a planned, inclusive and sustainable future for Kamathipura while respecting the area’s important social, cultural and historical character. By sharing project details directly with the local community and encouraging stakeholder participation, MHADA aims to make the redevelopment process more transparent, responsive and people-focused.
